EJelf 'My Favourite Yellow Vase' 20x30cm

Art has always played an important role though out Emma's life; from studying History of Art and a Fine Art painting degree, to working in galleries and teaching art in a primary school .

Emma has focused solely on oil painting for the last 5 years, since having children and returning to Wiltshire.   She was drawn back the open landscape of the Pewsey Vale and Salisbury Plain where she paints in nature and undertakes commissions.

'The healing sense of space and uplifting connection to nature has drawn me back to live and work here. I yearn to paint pictures that conjure up this spirit and to inspire others to feel this sense of calm emotion and connection to the landscape.'

Prior to this Emma had a career as Head of Art in a central London primary school, where working with creative and uninhibited children had a profound effect on her own approach to painting.

'I like to think we can all have a go and let ourselves be free and spontaneous when we allow ourselves to do so, something that comes so naturally to children but seems to leave us as we get older.'

Emma spent several years working in the creative department for the interior designer Tricia Guild and was inspired by her bold use of colour and light.  She then went on to live in Australia for a year where the outdoor lifestyle and vibrant colours led her to Mural painting.

Back in the UK Emma continued to pursue another 3 years as a mural artist working on a broad range of subjects and locations.   Emma has also worked in several contemporary art galleries in London.  All these experiences have an influence on Emma's approach and style of painting.

Emma draws inspiration from many artists including the work of Willem de Kooning, Ivon Hitchens, David Hockney,  as well as contemporary female painters such as Chloe Lamb, Elizabeth Barnett and Nancy Gurskin.

Emma is available to take on commissions.
